REMEMBERING THE FUTURE

VISUAL Carlow

For Remembering the Future, we invited Irish artist Sinéad Kennedy to show existing textile works from her Grand Land series, and commissioned 4 new site-specific curtains for the window in the Link Gallery.
Grand Land is an ongoing world-building project by Kennedy, in which she creates the civic paraphernalia for a society in which segregated tribes aligned with generic signs or objects communicate and pass down history through symbols and images, rather than spoken or written language.
Kennedy uses the imagery and context of Grand Land to explore real-world issues in an speculative way. Seen here are banners and flags associated with the path people, and curtains with the key people. A zine accompanies the exhibition and is available on request in the gallery.
